Moveworks + ServiceNow: What the Acquisition Actually Means for Buyers
If you own a Moveworks deployment, a ServiceNow estate, or both, the December 2025 close changed your roadmap whether you've planned for it or not. Here's the buyer-side read, stripped of vendor gloss.

ServiceNow closed its acquisition of Moveworks on December 15, 2025, in a deal valued at roughly $2.85 billion. The logic: combine ServiceNow's agentic AI and intelligent workflows with Moveworks' front-end AI assistant, enterprise search and agentic reasoning engine. sec + 3

What happened
The pace since is the part buyers underestimate. Just two months after close, ServiceNow introduced EmployeeWorks — Moveworks' conversational AI and enterprise search fused with ServiceNow's portal and autonomous workflows to turn natural-language requests into governed, end-to-end execution. Then at Knowledge 2026 it launched Otto, pulling EmployeeWorks together with the existing Now Assist and AI Experience layers into a single enterprise AI experience. MoveworksReworked

For three buyer profiles:
Moveworks standalone customers. Good news first: Moveworks continues to be offered as a standalone product — you can keep it as an independent solution or take it as an integrated component of a ServiceNow deployment. The real question isn't "will it survive" — it's whether staying standalone leaves governance and workflow execution value on the table that the integrated path now unlocks. Moveworks
ServiceNow customers without Moveworks. The conversational front door you may have been planning to build (or buy elsewhere) is now native strategy. Evaluate EmployeeWorks/Otto before committing budget to a third-party experience layer.
Both. You have overlapping conversational AI. The consolidation question is no longer "if" — it's sequencing, change management, and avoiding paying twice during the transition.

The thing nobody's saying
A unified experience layer that turns natural language into governed execution is powerful — and it raises the governance stakes, not lowers them. The moment a chat request can trigger an end-to-end workflow across systems, every prompt is a potential action. That's an accountability surface, and it needs the same discovery, permissioning and audit discipline as any other agent in your estate.
The integration is a genuine capability gain. It is not a reason to defer governance — it's a reason to bring it forward.
